Door Installation Type
Prehung
A pre-hung door is, as the name implies, a door that is already hanging in its own frame. It's a fully self-contained unit. Even before installation, it's theoretically possible to open and close the door within its own frame (it's not advisable, though, as you might torque the frame and damage it). The main parts of a pre-hung door are: door slab, hinges, and frame.
Retrofit
A retrofit installation is where only the moving part of the door is being replaced. The old door is removed by unscrewing the hinges and leaving the door jamb in place. A new door is cut to match the current door and installed in the existing door jamb. At VanDenBosch we have perfected a method of measurement that allows us to make a perfect retrofit door. The new door will fit better then the original.
Bypass
A bypass door system, also sometimes called a sliding door, is composed of two or more door panels that hang on a track and slide sideways...by-passing each other.
Bifold
Bifold doors are segmented, hinged narrow doors that fold into themselves and slide as a pair on a head track to the side when opened. They're ideal for smaller spaces such as laundry rooms, closets and other storage areas and for areas where you want to maximize access.
Pocket Door
A pocket door is a door system where a door panel can slide into the wall. A pocket door frame is installed in the wall to support the door when the door is open. Most pocket doors are installed with a light weight track that only supports hollow core doors. When a home owner upgrades the door to solid core or solid wood doors these tracks must be replaced to heavy duty tracks. At VanDenBosch we have perfected a method to replace the track without cutting into the wall.
