Windows Types
Awning
An awning window is a window that is attached to its frame by one or more hinges. Awning windows typically are hinged at the top and open outwards. Awning windows are great to create airflow while keeping strangers out as they do not open all the way.
They are opened with a crank, which is placed at the bottom of the window. A crank, stay, or friction hinge is necessary when the window opens outward, to hold the window in position despite wind
Casement
A casement window is a window that is attached to its frame by one or more hinges. Casement windows typically are hinged at the side and open outwards. They are used singly or in pairs within a common frame, in which case they are hinged on the outside.
Casement windows were the most common house window before the sash window was introduced. They are opened with a crank, which is placed at the bottom of the window. A crank, stay, or friction hinge is necessary when the window opens outward, to hold the window in position despite wind.
Double Hung
This sash window is the traditional style of window in the USA, with two parts (sashes) that overlap slightly and slide up and down inside the frame. The two parts are not necessarily the same size. Double-hung sash windows use spring balances to support the sashes.Sash windows may be fitted with simplex hinges which allow the window to be locked into hinges on one side, while the rope on the other side is detached, allowing the window to be opened for escape or cleaning.
Single Hung
A single hung window is the same as a double hung except that the top sash is fixed.
Picture Window
A picture window is a window that has no moving parts.
Horizontal Slider
